About the challenge
SOON: Something Out of Nothing. 50 of Canada's best builders, one house, one weekend. SOON is a 48-hour builder retreat in the Greater Toronto Area (October 23–25, 2026) where hackers live under one roof, build alongside sponsors and industry leaders, and turn bold ideas into real products.
The challenge is open-ended: start with nothing and leave with something real. Any idea, any stack, solo or as a team. Every project competes for the overall prizes, and you can also go after the sponsor prize tracks listed under Requirements.
Requirements
What to Build
Build something out of nothing: a working product you build at SOON this weekend and can demo on Sunday. It can be an app, a tool, an AI agent, a game or the first version of a startup. Any idea and any stack, as long as it works and you can show it.
Prizes (every project is eligible): 1st Place, 2nd Place, 3rd Place, Best Startup and Best Design.
Sponsor prize tracks (opt in on the submission form):
- Best game built with Chatforce (Chatforce)
Build a game with Chatforce and enter it. One person per game, and the best game wins a prize. - Build in Public (Stan)
Use Stanley to document the build the whole way through, from the first idea to the final demo. The best storytelling, or the posts that pull the most people in, takes the track. - Best use of AI on a real inspection (Mold Busters)
Mold Busters AI puts a virtual inspector on a video call: it maps what the camera is looking at, flags active growth and moisture risk, and turns the call into a summary, a remediation scope and an estimate. Build something in that shape, where a model looks at a real place and comes back with a call somebody can act on. - Best use of Estelle (Fate Labs)
Build on Estelle: point it at a codebase, give your agent memory it can cite, and let it answer or ship from what is actually in the repo rather than from a guess. Judged by Fate Labs on what you got an agent to do reliably.
What to Submit
Submit your project here on Devpost before 12:00 PM (noon) ET on Sunday, October 25. Make one submission per team and add every teammate to it. Include:
- Project name, tagline and description: what it does, how you built it, the challenges you ran into and what's next.
- Images or a short demo video (a video isn't required, but it helps judges a lot).
- Links to your code repository and, if you have one, a live demo.
- Built with: the languages, frameworks, APIs and sponsor tools you used.
- Sponsor tracks: opt into the tracks you're entering on the submission form. For Build in Public, link your Stanley posts; for Chatforce, link your game.
Then be ready to demo your project live at Judging + Demo, Sunday 12:00–2:00 PM.
